About the Luxembourg Stock Exchange

The Luxembourg Stock Exchange was incorporated in April 1928 and held its first trading session in May 1929. Since then, it has gained extensive experience in the listing and trading of securities of many different types and from many different countries. Today, The Luxembourg Stock Exchange operates two markets: the EU regulated market and the Euro MTF, opened in July 2005.

The Luxembourg Stock Exchange is internationally recognised for its listing expertise and listing is its core business. More than 45,000 instruments are listed including: debt securities (bonds), warrants, shares, depositary receipts and shares and units of investment funds. An important particularity of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange is that all its listed securities are also tradable.

European centre for international bonds

The Luxembourg Stock Exchange was the first exchange to list a Eurobond, in 1963, and since then it has become Europe’s leading location for the listing of international bonds.

Bonds make up some 70% of instruments listed. Indeed, around 32,000 bonds and debt securities can be accessed from the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. These cover a large variety of types and are from a wide range of issuers. Issuers include, among others, government agencies, states, banks and corporate issuers.

Luxnext for corporate bonds

For the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, the partnership creating Luxnext allows it to offer the corporate bonds listed on its markets to a larger group of investors. Trading is carried out on the UTP platform used by NYSE Euronext’s European Cash Markets, Europe's prime pool of liquidity.

As part of the partnership, NYSE Euronext’s European Cash Markets use the SAGE platform of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange for processing listings.

This will assist the further development of a new, common standard for listing and trading of corporate bonds.
